Mapping Pollution in Saint Sebastian River

The Saint Sebastian River, a significant freshwater source for the Indian River Lagoon and home to many species, remains underdeveloped compared to other lagoon tributaries. Despite this lower development and substantial financial investments in muck dredging, water quality standards for nutrients in the river are still unmet.

With support from Indian River Impact 100, we’re creating a set of pollution gradient maps to pinpoint problem areas to focus restoration efforts.  As part of this project, we are seeking high school students to participate in field sampling and laboratory work.

Join ORCA’s project to participate in real scientific research, gain hands-on field and lab experience, and earn service hours while helping to protect the St. Sebastian River.  Students who register for the project are expected to participate in a field sampling day and a lab day. Students also have the opportunity to participate in ORCA’s Data Jam project to gain experience interpreting scientific data.

Students should register below for one field sampling day and one lab day.
